Something soft underfoot

Whether you’re after a bit of warmth and comfort as you step out of bed on a chilly morning, need to soften the look of hard flooring, or simply want to inject a new colour or texture into your room – now is the perfect time to think about a rug for your sleep space.  We’ve put together some tips for you to consider when choosing the size and placement of the rug.
The colour and style? That’s over to you!

Young at heart

As a general rule a bedroom rug should be placed perpendicular to the bed. The longer length should run centred to the bed, with the shorter width starting in front of the bedsides and running slightly beyond the end of the bed. In a nutshell, the end of the bed should sit on top of the rug, but the bedsides or bedhead should not. If you have a bench or storage at the end of your bed, you may want to pull the rug out further so that it’s sitting completely on the rug.

Contemporary

To look balanced under the bed, the rug should be large enough to extend either side of the bed by at least 40cm. Depending on the size of the room there can be more rug extending around the bed – but not less, this will make sure the rug looks balanced in size and is not overshadowed by the bed.

Warm neutrals

Our standard rug sizes are 160x240cm & 200x300cm – the smaller size suits a double or queen bed, leaving 51cm either side of a double, and 43cm either side of a queen. The larger size is suited to either a king or super king bed, leaving 66cm either side of a king and 58cm either side of a super king. If you do have a large room, definitely make the most of it and regardless of the bed size, go for the larger rug!
