How to: transform your home into a Christmas wonderland
The festive season is here and—if you’re anything like us—you’re beyond excited to transform your home into a Christmas wonderland. To guide you on your decorating journey, we’ve rounded up five tips to create a magical space these holidays.
First things first… The theme!
Lock in a Christmas theme and the rest will flow. Think: white Christmas, gold glamour, rustic vintage or natural woodland. Let the theme guide your decorations, ornaments and colour selection. You don’t need to adhere to the traditional Christmas colours of red, green or white—although you can’t go wrong with this classic combo. To try something new, choose two or three “hero” colours that go well together—such as mustard yellow, blush pink and white.
Let your tree choose you
Speaking of alternative Christmas décor, you can also opt for a less-traditional tree. Our pared-back birch trees are very popular and are perfectly suited to minimalist and Scandi interiors. The trees are designed with built-in lights that emit a warm glow and allow for an easy assembly. We also have a selection of Spira Christmas trees that are crafted in Slovenia from warming plywood. Lights, baubles, ornaments!
Now for the fun part… the decorations! Adorn your tree with twinkling fairy lights, ornaments and baubles. Keep things interesting (and fun) with a selection of shapes, sizes and textures. Our extensive collection showcases everything from a woollen sloth and glittery hand-blown bauble, to a porcelain bach and even a friendly papier-maché polar bear. We like the idea of adding an ornament to wrapped gifts so the recipient has a special memento for years to come.
Don’t forget the rest of the house
Christmas décor isn’t limited to the tree. Create a welcoming ambiance in your home with a seasonally scented candle like our Fig & Bergamot or Ginger & Amber. Decorate surfaces such as fireplaces, sideboards and tables with festive garlands, enchanting snow globes and flickering candles. We’re particularly obsessed with porcelain decorations such as our 3D trees, hand-painted porcelain houses and our statement house candle holders.
Bring the outdoors in
Add an organic touch to your Christmas wonderland by adding greenery and florals. Intertwine ornaments on a faux wreath and hang on the front door to welcome guests. We’re also excited to stock dried floral wreaths in our New Zealand Città Design stores. These limited-edition wreaths are handcrafted by Hana Jansen of Wellington-based label Stem and made with foliage sourced from all over New Zealand. Hang from a wall or display as a statement centrepiece on your table. Alternatively, your table centrepiece could showcase a vase filled with foraged pinecones or a faux garland adorned with decorations.
